The Little Cauldron of Caramel 🪄
The Tale of the Swirling Lava Pot 🌋
🪄 Once upon a time in the 1970s, French glassmakers decided that dinner shouldn’t just taste good—it should look like it was cooked inside a volcano! They took toughened opaline glass and swirled in the colours of a sunset to create the Volcan range.
🪄 Born in the famous Arcopal foundries of France, this dish was a bit of a scientific marvel. In an age when most glass would faint (or shatter) at the sight of a hot oven, the Volcan dish was brave.
🪄 It was designed to go on a grand journey from the fiery depths of a hot oven directly to the centre of a dining table.
🪄 Because it is made of "vitro-ceramic" glass, it’s essentially a piece of space-age technology disguised as a groovy kitchen pot. It was Arcopal’s way of bringing a bit of French "Ooh-la-la" to the everyday casserole.
🪄 Why It’s So Special? 🪄
This dish is a time traveller. It represents a moment in history when people wanted their kitchens to feel earthy, bold, and a little bit psychedelic.
🪄 Unique as a Fingerprint 🪄
Because the colours were swirled while the glass was molten, no two Volcan dishes are exactly the same. This dish is a one-of-a-kind piece of glass art!
🪄 The Guardian of Flavour 🪄
Because it’s made of glass, it doesn't hold onto the ghosts of meals past. It’s always fresh and ready for a new adventure, whether that’s a hearty stew or a pile of roast potatoes.
As a testament to French craftsmanship, it is in amazing condition. Just one tiny mark on the inside base as pictured.
All items are in vintage and antique preloved condition. Some minor surface scratches may be present. I do my best to note and photograph any wear. Please contact me with any further questions :)
