The Cloud Glass Dream Dish
The Tale of the Cloud Glass Dream
Once upon a time in England, during the Art Deco years, glassmakers were experimenting with colour in ways that still feel a little magical today. Davidson Glass became especially loved for their cloud glass, pieces filled with soft milky tones and flowing marbled colour, each one catching the light a little differently and never quite repeating itself.
This beautiful trinket dish is attributed to Davidson Glass of England and is a lovely example of that dreamy era. The glass is a soft milky aqua blue, threaded through with flowing plum and amethyst swirls that drift through the piece like ink moving through water.
Each angle reveals something slightly different. A little more violet here, a little more blue there, with the colours shifting beautifully as the light moves across the surface.
The dish sits somewhere between a plate and a bowl, with a gentle depth that makes it beautifully versatile.
Perfect as a jewellery dish, a place to rest a few treasured trinkets, or simply displayed where the colours can catch the light and quietly glow.
The swirling colour is part of the glass itself, created during the pressing process rather than applied later. The underside shows the lovely radiating mould pattern associated with Davidson cloud glass, while the top remains smooth and glossy to the touch.
Why it’s so special
This blue and amethyst cloud glass colourway is particularly rare. Davidson produced cloud glass in a range of marbled tones, but pieces with this striking combination of soft aqua blue and rich plum are much harder to come across. The contrast between the cool blue and the deeper violet gives the glass a beautiful depth, and the marbling moves naturally through the piece in a way that makes every angle slightly different. It’s an unusual and wonderfully eye-catching example of English Art Deco cloud glass.
Each curated treasure comes with its own illustrated history card, created especially for the piece and inspired by the details that make it unique, allowing the thread of its story to carry forward into the hands of its next keeper.
Condition and Character
This dish is in very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks observed. The glass remains smooth and glossy, with the marbled colour beautifully clear throughout. As with vintage pressed glass, there may be gentle mould lines or tiny variations from the making process, all part of the character of an original piece from this era.
🧚♀️ A Little Note from the Antique Fairy 🧚♀️
As with all vintage darlings, these pieces have lived a life or two and may have tiny surface scratches here or there as part of their story. I do my very best to capture any little whispers of wear in photos and notes. I also try to photograph each treasure in different light so you can see the colour as clearly as possible. Even so, tones may vary a little from screen to screen.
